UPDATE: Nearly all UPS drivers in southern and northern CA have been informed by the Teamsters that they can refuse to deliver packages to the U of California during the strike. Teamsters confirmed. This will likely to have some impact on the U.C. system washingtonpost.com/business/2022/…

I stand in strong solidarity with the 48,000 academic workers at the University of California who are on strike for higher wages, better child care benefits, and expanded paid leave.

Fully agree. Poverty wages are a burden on everyone, but the larger issue is how it excludes and pushes candidates out of higher education. Fair pay is, at its core, a diversity and equity issue and that's what we are fighting for. @uaw2865 San Francisco Chronicle University of California #FairUCNow

We are now entering week two of unfair labor practice strikes by UAW-represented academic workers at the University of California. Their talent is what enables UC’s world-class research. I’m leading colleagues to call on UC to reach a resolution and bargain in good faith.

I now called and wrote to my CA state senator Nancy Skinner . Spread the word. Faculty, write to your representatives and call. Plus side: The people on the other side are friendly and great. I cannott stare down my upcoming budget projections feeling that I did not try.

The strike by 48,000 U. of California workers is by far the largest & most important strike in the history of US higher education—with the potential to transform the status & income of work in an industry that has more employees than the federal government theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

🚨Generative AI has a serious problem with bias🚨 Over months of reporting, Dina Bass and I looked at thousands of images from Stable Diffusion and found that text-to-image AI takes gender and racial stereotypes to extremes worse than in the real world. 🧵 1/13

We are excited to share Dong-Min Yu’s recent publication in @JCI. He describes a role for the GLUT3 (SLC2A3) facilitative glucose transporter in macrophage signaling and demonstrates its potential relevance to allergic inflammation and wound healing. jci.org/articles/view/…
