๐งต1/6 We have been nonstop. Last week we hosted the Muslim Sisters of Staten Island at La Colmena for their Ramadan Food Bag Distribution.
๐งต2/6 We also continue with our mentor & mentee program for new arrivals in partnership w/ NYC Mayorโs Office of Immigrant Affairs. New arrivals are learning directly from long term immigrants -- from jobs, schools to building community.
๐งต3/6 La Colmena continues to partner up w/ the NYPD Community Affairs to advice new arrivals on the doโs & dontโs & about their rights. Together we are building bridges.
๐งต4/6 We were proud to participate in the first inclusive St. Patrick's Day Parade on Staten Island. Congratulations to Forest Avenue BID and Pride Center of SI for making this happen.
๐งต5/6 La Colmena continues with its carpentry program in partnership with MakerspaceNYC. Students are learning everyday how to use different equipments that will help them in construction.
๐งต6/6 Excited to partner up with Domestic Workers to begin the We Rise Training for Trainers at La Colmena. Together we are creating the next generation of leaders!
Despite the weather, our immigrant outreach unit continues serving our immigrant families โ creating effective opportunities to build community trust. A special thank you to La Colmena ๐ aka The Beehive for hosting our safety tips workshop. Together we can build strong communities for everyone.
The NYC Coalition for Domestic Work is at City Hall today ready to testify at today's Committee on Consumer & Worker Protections hearing. We want to ensure the city's budget this year reflects an investment for #CareForNYC through the Domestc Worker & Employer Empowerment Initiative! โ
๐งต5/7 We understand the importance of ESL courses & this is why by partnering up w/ College of Staten Island & NYC Mayorโs Office of Immigrant Affairs we have been able to host ESL classes & the #WeSpeak program in all 3 of our centers. -- Every day workers are learning how to communicate at the job site.
๐งต6/7 At a state level as members of the Domestic Workers Initiative w/ Adhikaar @cga_npc Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network Domestic Workers we joined the #ExcludedNoMore to push for the Unemployment Bridge Program for immigrant workersโ๐ฝ.
๐งต7/7 We remain committed to continue pushing against hate and to create a welcoming Staten Island for all by partnering up w/ Hispanic Federation though Partners Against the Hate.
๐ข We released the Cityโs newly expanded, landmark Workersโ Bill of Rights, a guide to rights in the workplace in NYC, which was created in collaboration with NYC Mayorโs Office of Immigrant Affairs + NYC Human Rights!
