In case you were wondering how long we’ve known that mobility in cities is fundamentally a space problem, this was from Wichita Falls, Texas in 1927. The streetcar was electric. And they would need more cars today because of fewer average people in each car. HT Peter Norton

The streetcar was electric.

And they would need more cars today because of fewer average people in each car.

If you're interested in a rail network that expands beyond #yyc, check out the virtual open house on regional rail being hosted tonight.

This will be a great addition to our city. Unfortunately it will have a big, empty lot sitting next to it as the fate of #greenlineyyc north of 7th Ave remains in limbo. Whether elevated or tunneled, a design plan for Eau Claire station & Bow River Bridge needs to be completed.

Tomorrow is a day over a decade in the making. It is very exciting that #greenlineyyc will finally go from a line on a map to tracks in the ground. The first kilometer was always going to be the hardest one. Now we've started to build, we shouldn't stop until all 44km are built

The first kilometer of track was always going to be the hardest to get built. There's now momentum towards finishing the other 43 km. Start building, keep building. Today was a great day for Calgary.

Is it 2014? For a province that wants to create a passenger rail system, they sure seem deadset on making sure nobody will use it and just continue driving. This type of attitude is anti-train and will hurt rail use in the long run, making it dead in the water. #yyc #yeg

The UCP's weird attack on city bike lanes is crazy stuff for a government that spends most of it's time obsessed with jurisdictional overreach. #yycbike #yyccc #ableg

Minister Devin Dreeshen asks: What's the plan to make sure the city can increase road capacity for vehicles? In a confined space like downtown #yyc, the answer's either bulldoze buildings or remove sidewalks. That's why creating other options like trains & bike lanes is important

DYK that despite the population of #yyc growing by over 400000 people between 2015 & 2023, downtown traffic volume has actually gone done? It's obvious the United Conservative Party of Alberta doesn't know that but less traffic is what investing in alternatives like #yycbike lanes & transit is all about

Fair question by Jason Kenney 🇨🇦🇺🇦🇮🇱, but the wrong context If provincial legislatures are going to continually muscle their way into municipal issues (Green Line/Bike Lanes) why even bother with the pretense of elected, responsible government? Local politicians should decide local issues

LRTontheGreen (@lrtonthegreen) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Irony is officially dead in Alberta. Instead of the United Conservative Party of Alberta working to solve the problems they're in charge of, they're spending time & energy policing local decisions like bike lanes & punishing cities that step up to solve the problems the UCP won't calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…

MLA for a riding where the largest town has a population of just over 7,000 people, and who represents a party that lost the popular vote in both Edmonton & Calgary in the last election, says he'll step in to impose his worldview on city officials democratically elected by locals

Calgary has long under-utilized its transit stations and regulated them to parking lots. So why, at a time when everybody is saying build housing near transit, we don't appear to be making progress on this? calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…
