A couple of folks have crunched the numbers (Evercore ISI - their chart, below; Omair Sharif) and concluded that the U.S. weighted average tariff, with all Trump's new orders in effect, will be higher than under Smoot-Hawley.

Random question: has anyone explained by the spread in market performance started ~March 1? While trends are roughly parallel, I'm curious if anyone has dug into why we see Germany/UK/China being treated as safer markets vs. US, Japan, Canada?

An excellent summation of the deal, laying out key questions for the UK, businesses impacted and other watching trading partners. Quick to lay out a plan, but remains to be seen how the US and UK follow through, and whether this deal translates to anything sustainable.

This dispute could prove tense based on discussions at the WTO before this consultation request. Russia asserted the following in December '24 that their written questions were left unanswered, but then asserted more boldly the following:

A great visual showing how US tariffs on aluminum put US aluminum-consuming manufacturers (eg Boeing) at a big cost disadvantage vs their competitors abroad (eg Airbus)

We modeled (a few versions of) the "Liberation Day" tariffs. The tariffs reduce US & global economic growth & increase inflation in many economies, depending on how others respond. A higher US risk premium means even higher inflation & significantly lower real GDP.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic the adoption of various remote research tools has emerged, increasingly blurring the line between our homes and fields. Read NEW article co-authored by Marnie Howlett (Oxford School of Global & Area Studies ) & Dr. Lauren C. Konken

Thrilled to have this piece published after long reflections on the impact of the pandemic on research methods. An extension of our previous piece in Perspectives on Politics, Marnie Howlett and I discuss the Home-Field dichotomy in detail.
