Stop getting your book suggestions from TikTok and try Lithub, The New Yorker or The Times and you'll never have this problem again.

Sometimes the frustrating part about writing is not knowing what the next bit is, or the shape of the whole thing, but also knowing the answer is already in your brain somewhere. You read and research and talk to others, but these only point you to something you already knew.

There is no AI economy. It loses hundreds of billions of dollars and all gains are in speculative valuation. The only one making a profit is Nvidia, and it doesn’t make anything. It resells Taiwanese chips to companies that use them to lose money.

Like everything ⁦John Burn-Murdoch⁩ makes, this chart is amazing. The sharp decline in conscientiousness and rise in neuroticism among young people is astonishing. But also of note: literally every age group has gotten less extroverted in the age of the smartphone

Thinking about giving physical reading packets to students again. Nice and grainy so if they try to scan it in for an AI to "read" it's not going to know what the hell it is. Plus the physical copies in the classroom makes the discussion so much better anyway.

There are a lot of days when you have no idea if you're a good parent or not, but today my kids can't stop taking about how excited they are to have a sleepover in the public library, so I'm taking it as a win.

“Both sides are the same!” If Obergefell falls, blue states will still have gay marriage. Red states will not. Blue states have pro-choice protections. Red states do not. While you say “Both sides are the same”, real people pay the price.

On one hand, Republican officials call themselves "warfighters." On the other, they become whiny crybabies at the thought of setting foot in DC streets and New York City subways that literal schoolchildren navigate every day without incident. Real macho stuff.
