Mark from the Strandloper Project have been following the movements of the southern right whales along our coastline. I happened to spot one while flying, contacted Mark and we met up on Wilderness Beach. This is what took place next:

What an odd experience I had with some octopi. I normally lure them out to interact, but these literally launched themselves from underneath the ledge. One even got it completely wrapped around my leg. It must have been a sight watching me dislodge the poor creature 🤣🤣

February is #HumpbackWhaleAwareness Month! Let's talk, humpback whales. Why are they called humpbacks? The whale was named for the distinctive hump on its back. Well, it's not exactly just the hump shape, but also the shape they create with their bodies just before they dive.

Today is World Wildlife Day, and we can't think of a better way to celebrate this day by sharing the important contributions that whales have on the planet. Whales capture carbon from the atmosphere, support ocean food chains, and increase phytoplankton production. #WWD2025 #Knysna
