Sea level update 🌊

Global average sea level rose by about 0.3 inches (0.76 centimeters) from 2022 to 2023, according to a NASA-led analysis. This relatively large jump is due mostly to a warming climate and the development of a strong El Niño.

Elizabeth Kolbert Here’s how unusual the margin was by which September 2023 broke the previous September record in global mean temperature.
Never before had a previous record been exceeded by 0.1 degrees Centigrade or more.
This one by 0.49 C.
And not because the previous record was very old.
