I'm the Steve mentioned in the article! I didn't work in the game directly, (I was part of DMA Design's Design Department), and I created the instruction booklet, including the writing and typesetting/layout and some overwrought graphic design! 3D renders came from the artists.

I doubt it would have made it to the final version. Nintendo were *scrupulous* about no-one else getting credit. On Uniracers the "DMA Design" credit was microscopic in the corner of the box for example. So I liked to try sneaking stuff in, as a sport.

Another of the little things I tried to sneak into the instruction booklet, but which would likely have been replaced by a proper artist. I drew the scene at the Dreamspring and in the background that's.... ME! Waving with one arm and holding a laptop in the other.
