These changes will help reduce carbon pollution, support the forestry sector, create jobs, build more homes, and lead to more vibrant communities.

We know mass timber looks great - now we can use it in larger buildings and more types of buildings.

This morning, I updated the BC Building Code with changes - effective immediately - that will:

✅Allow for 18 stories.
✅Allow for 9 stories without drywall.
✅Allow for different building structures - like schools and libraries.

Projects that come forward that fit the development plan will no longer have to go to public hearing & will be required to update their city-wide development plan.

We welcome additional funding to support infrastructure tied to ambitious housing plans.

The goals align with what is already happening in B.C.

If other provinces don’t participate, we hope the allocated dollars flow to provinces that do.

Wild that Ontario went from challenging BC for the housing policy crown to one of the worst NIMBY governments in the country so quickly. I still wonder what drove the pivot: was it a response to the Greenbelt scandal, municipal pushback on DCs, or just the the change in Minister?
