Today I have launched a campaign and petition to save more than a dozen majestic and magnificent oak trees in Hoo! These beautiful oaks are under threat and it's up to Medway Council (who owns the trees) to protect them...

The KOS certainly supports your campaign. Hoad’s Wood SSSI should be for woodland birds (and other wildlife), not illegal dumping of waste!

I was thrilled to catch up with a pair of lesser spots on my patch today. Pls report all your sightings to kentos.org.uk or on BTO Birdtrack App so we can get a better idea of territories in Kent. Visit woodpecker-network.org.uk for tips on how to find them. 🪶

We are very disappointed that Dover District Council planning committee approved the applications for a 120-bed hotel & Seahive surf lagoon development at Betteshanger Country Park.

This is a loss for nature and the local community.

It’s the perfect time of year to look for displaying Goshawks to help us monitor their increasing population. Here’s RBBP secretary Mark Eaton with some encouragement! More detailed advice at raptormonitoring.org/wp-content/upl…

Where have all the Tree Sparrows gone? Not a single record in Cambridgeshire so far this month Cambs Bird Club - hopefully someone has seen one. Are they faring better elsewhere in the country?

Golden-winged Warbler, found in Kent on this day in 1989, leading to one the UK’s biggest twitches. Still the only UK record.

Happy New Year to all our members!
Thanks for your support👍 As a New Year Resolution, how about making sure you submit your records, either to KOS or BirdTrack/eBird so we can get them on our database. Now more than ever we need data - no records, no data!
Good Birding in 2024!
