Risk of deadly wildfires like the one in Valparaiso is increasing, despite a well-know cooling at the coast of Chile, due to land use and will get worse with future warming. New World Weather Attribution study - worldweatherattribution.org/despite-known-…

Glad to have been part of this perspective piece regarding how the insurance industry, catastrophe modeling, and scientific community can productively work together to ensure resilience in the face of climate change.

Its been a big week for enhanced rock weathering! First a major study was released by the National Academy of Sciences finding strong positive results from a 4-year field trial in the US corn belt: ➑️ ~2.5 tons CDR / hectare/yr ➑️ Higher yields and lower N2O emissions pnas.org/doi/full/10.10…

hi all! though i'm (mostly) not on here anymore, i wanted to share that my new paper is out on the near-surface atmospheric drying trend in the southwest US since 1970 and its implications for forest fires! πŸ”₯πŸ’¨ journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/…

I often think about how the worst WUI fires we've ever had were in the midwest in the 19th century. We don't tend to think of that as wildfire country - but we need to given what has been happening north of the border. Does Minnesota even have d-space code? If so, is it enforced?

Policy Forum in Science Magazine today - led by MoritzDrupp - has a clear and simple recommendation for valuing environmental goods and ecosystem services. Accounting for increases in the relative value of non-market environmental goods is essential

Interested in working on thorny applied climate problems? Come work for me, and see where the rubber meets the road on climate mitigation/adaptation. Esp looking for folks who can help us with engineering/vulnerability or transition risk analytics/integrated assessment modeling.

Our new paper in Nature Communications shows that all coastal defences have a positive economic return over a 20 year lifespan but hybrid coastal defence measures perform best. nature.com/articles/s4146…
