Yesterday, Carterville AP Calculus classes had a guest speaker. Ron Nagrodski came to talk (and teach) about a variety of AP topics. His influence on math education in Southern Illinois is immeasurable. He was my high school math teacher and I continue to learn from him still.

Changes in education happen slowly. Jake Towers and I have spent two years creating a new classroom model that focuses squarely on student learning. Our Skills Based Classroom teaching model has been a huge success for our students. Please check out what we have created.

Sorry, Dylan, I can’t help you. But this week, we did multiply conjugate pairs in Algebra II. Since we generally recognize their products because of the perfect squares, I suggest sticking to the 4-day week schedule. 3 days could get a little too radical.

Speaking of the 2008 team… they played a regular season game (to finish conference play) after their regional championship. They lost, but went on to win the state championship. A rare example of being a state champion while suffering a loss after the start of the postseason.

Congratulations Will and the Carterville Lions softball team on becoming state bound for the 5th time in program history. You have earned the right to compete on the biggest stage. Continue to do what Lions do!

Interesting trivia tied to that team. They actually lost a game after winning their regional championship. Two days before the sectional started, a conference makeup game was played and Carterville lost 2-0. They then proceeded to reel off 5 wins in a row to become state champs.
