We often criticize ED physicians who go too fast. We worry about the harm they may cause to their patients. The unpopular take is to criticize those who go way too slow. We often fail to worry about the patients they don’t see. The waiting TBS. I worry a lot about them.

'An ideal should be short (≤5 minutes) and multidimensional, reflecting baseline 2-4 weeks before presentation. Screening should be routine, prompt (<4 hours after arrival) and completed at first contact in ED.' bgs.org.uk/blog/getting-t…

Today we honor Dr. William West, who died by suicide.

His family writes, “We hope systemic changes can be made to support aspiring medical professionals better. This is critical. We don’t want any other families to experience tragedies like this.”

Wise words from wise man.
Falls are very much a sentinel event and an opportunity for ED/any providers to initiate multidisciplinary assessment and care in an effort to reduce subsequent morbidity and mortality. GeriEM Canada

🦴🧠 Pre-op testing in pts should be standard.

❓ Why? Because delirium:

⭐️ Indicates worse prognosis
⭐️ Responds to treatment
⭐️ Needs a Dx to inform pts & carers
⭐️ Can mask pain
⭐️ + several other reasons

“For older patients, waiting overnight in the ED for admission to a ward was associated with increased in-hospital mortality and morbidity, particularly in patients with limited autonomy.  Older adults should be prioritized for admission to a ward.”

11 million dollars. Instead of paying family doctors to actually work here. I'd love to know how this is meeting college regulations of having to be able to provide in-person care when needed. This is appalling. No one asked for this.

UNBELIEVABLE 😡😡😡

So not only is this government prioritizing care with no in-person component and no continuity, now it is to be outsourced to a US-based company.

Remind me the chapter in Health Accord where this was recommended??
