You Might Be Autistic That being different is not a moral failing and that if I be myself, there will be people who appreciate that. Some people won't, but that's ok. My people are out there and I can find them. Also that it's ok to walk away. If something is making me miserable I can always walk away
You Might Be Autistic I would tell my younger self that who he is and the way his brain works is great and he is beautiful. And that just because literally no one else in his life can see that does not mean it is not true.
You Might Be Autistic That you do not have to be in cultures that bully you. There are tons of alternative schools/unschooling/healthy communities where bullying is simply not acceptable.

#Katy Elphinstone “A consequence of everything being about 'children with autism': no one thinks about the adults. They desire desperately to make us indistinguishable from peers… and then as soon as we meet that goal, we're allbetternow.”

#Katy Elphinstone Kuperstein’s 2018 study links it to PTSD, Dettmering, 2024 admitted behaviour change isn’t about making people happy or healthy, Therapist Neurodiversity Collective might know more, or Lauren C. , several studies on distressed behaviours increasing as a result

Liz Peecock #Katy Elphinstone I think to be honest with therapies such as CBT or DbT they are all about telling people that the way they think or act is wrong. Eg if you are anxious or depressed it is because you are thinking or behaving wrong. That is not good either for autistic people or for NTs
Liz Peecock #Katy Elphinstone Both CBT and ABA are based on ‘fake it till you make it’, do something even if it makes you feel uncomfortable or you are exhausted or anxious to get there in the end
Liz Peecock #Katy Elphinstone Fake it till you make it doesn’t work for autistic people, they get burn out and crash
#Katy Elphinstone autistic violinist (´・ᴗ・ ` ) This paper on a Social Skills Intervention discusses improvements to the 'school climate' and there was a mention of 'cost effectiveness' in there too. Yuk!
