A great piece with Simon Fleming 🛠 - I know Simon, like other campaigners for change, gets significant amounts of unpleasant behaviour sent his way, but champions difficult causes and tackles difficult issues with courage because it’s the right thing to do.

Not seen the tweet this relates to but one of the reasons I stay on this platform is to pick up issues affecting staff that I can do something about. Social media democratises and disrupts power in an important way. We should listen and act to address the issue not the person.

If your staff are reaching out to an academic on social media they have never met out of desperation for patient safety/working conditions, the appropriate course of action is to LISTEN to them, not reprimand them for an act of desperation.
