There are so many barriers to accessing support for one’s mental health as a doctor. But this one is huge.. the feeling you should be able to manage your health yourself as you are a doctor. It can be hard to ask for help and it’s therefore it’s even more important we can access…

In 2014 life dealt me an out of the blue, terrifying, life-changing experience.
It shattered me into pieces.

I used NHS Practitioner Health when I was suffering with postnatal depression. As part of the feelings of guilt and worthlessness, I was very reticent to seek help as I had a fear of being referred to secondary MH services in my local area, as I work as a psychiatry CT (1/n)

When I was a CMT1 I was in a godawful post where I ended up driving to a lake to drown myself after work one late night after finishing.

The Trust's Occupational Health sole suggestion was that I talk to my non existent supervisor 'if I was struggling'.

I have worked with NHS Practitioner Health for almost a decade. First as a clinical lead and now as a psychiatrist. A CQC-rated Outstanding service. We need to care for our NHS staff so they can care for their patients.

One doctor takes their life every three weeks and a nurse takes their life every single week, to remove a service without a published review or equality impact assessment is reckless. . Please sign this open letter
