Plant biology twitter: I am writing a piece on epic plant anatomist Katherine Esau. Looking for micrographs taken with ‘modern’ imaging methods (confocal, electron tomography etc), published or not, that look similar to one of her drawings. DM or email. RT! #WomenInScienceDay

Pollen tube stained for #mitochondria (MitoTracker Green, green) and #lysosomes (Lysotracker Red, red). Watch the #pollen tube extend from the crack in the pollen grain (visualized by its autofluorescence). (1/3)

Carefully dissected Arabidopsis pistils show the beautiful ovules and journey of the pollen tubes hidden just beneath their carpel walls. Darkfield (left) and GUS staining (right).

Plants move—sometimes fast! Together with David Sleboda & reza sharif we wanted to find out how Mimosa, the sensitive plant, is able to rapidly fold its leaves when touched. The motion is executed by pulvini, thickened regions at organ bases. Current Biology @McGillU 1/3

In their article published in Plant Reproduction, Karuna Kapoor & Anja Geitmann examine how callose promotes pollen tube invasive growth, and how spatial enrichment of callose in the cell might be regulated. Read their work here👉 rdcu.be/doECY
