A ‘decolonise’ conference that’s rejected a panel on Palestine because they only want topics that aren’t divisive 🙃 tells you everything you need to know about ‘decolonisation’ and UK universities 🫠

'The Nakba has also a lesser-known environmental dimension, the complete transformation of the environment, the weather, the soil, the loss of indigenous climate, the vegetation, the skies. The Nakba is a process of colonially imposed climate change.'

'Policing affect is part of the political struggle. Anything that ignites the feeling that the oppressed will break free, that occupations and blockades will end, must be extinguished.'

Given the dread state of Italian politics, it is all the more instructive that some of the most significant movements for an ecological transition from below have been emerging there 1/3

Pointing out, as a vegan, that universal veganism is anti-peasamt, anti-pastoralist, and just generally unnecessary.

In November a group of UCU members wrote to Jo Grady and UCU pres and NEC on refusing work that may implicate workers in genocide. We got no response from the GS or president.

We wrote: 'UK universities undertake research and other work which is used to manufacture weaponry'

A thing I’m increasingly irritated by: asshats like this ventriloquizing for the Global South like *they* know what’s best for all.

In spending time with food sovereignty folks/land defenders from around the world, I regularly hear critiques that sound like degrowth to me (1/n)

Very good article by Kai Heron in the Verso Books blog on the shortcomings of the eco-modernist argument made by Huber, Phillips et al.

those of you who've been following the debate on degrowth vs left eco-modernism might be interested in this chapter written by Yousaf Nishat-Botero and I, forthcoming in a UCL Press collection on 'Postcapitalist Countrysides'...

The most mealy-mouthed kind of Zionist is the anti-anti-Zionist. They’re not Zionist, you see, they just think anti-Zionism is unrealistic, puerile, and potentially dangerous. Don't be fooled by this. Two negatives always make a positive.

Kai Heron I think/fear we're on the cusp of a battle for the future + survival of us all, where the battle-lines have become all too apparent. Yes, our side is getting our shit together - as we must. The only options are to join or to help what is needed to happen. Nothing else is serious.

A much needed intervention by Kai Heron:

“[C]apital is a killing machine. The longer it lasts, the more it kills, maims, and deprives, the more it robs the global working classes of the conditions they need to create a viable post-capitalist future.”

The most interesting thing here is that Exxon say they need public subsidies to deliver their climate commitments despite making $36bn in profits in 2023. Exxon's website boasts about 'investing more money to grow oil and gas production than any other U.S. company.'

it’s easy to be “pro-palestine” now once the bodies have piled up, but what happened, and the moral equivocation that took place in the first two weeks after oct 7th laid the groundwork for where we are now
