Exciting news! The Shona are #nolongerstateless They have finally been recognized as Kenyans & were issued with national IDs by the CS Interior, Dr. Fred Matiangi, EGH, PhD, HSC. The work now begins to ensure their socio-economic empowerment as they can now enjoy the full benefits of citizenship.

#BirthCertificates for the Shona children were their first legal documents which not only ensured access to education but are also a critical document against trafficking of children, early and forced child marriages just to name a few. #LegalIdentity #Daughter of Africa🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪

Statelessness and lack of legal identity exclude millions from digital systems. At #DRIF25 , our panel explores how the AU Protocol on the Right to a Nationality offers a rights-based roadmap for inclusion. #DigitalID #HR4ID #Ubuntu Social Justice Junkie

At #DRIF25, we joined Lawyers for Human Rights, ISER Uganda, Common Cause & Kabarak Law School for a panel on digital citizenship and #statelessness. Digital citizenship in Africa needs to be anchored on laws/policies that balance rights respecting ID systems, considerations for inclusion & innovation.
