Felt the #earthquake ?

Earthquakes in the eastern U.S. are felt over a MUCH bigger area than the West Coast.

Why?

Eastern U.S. has older rocks. They were subject to extreme pressures and temperatures. They’re denser and so shaking travels much farther.

Example:

😲 Scientists from #WHOI , Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Lehigh University recently found 5 new hydrothermal vents!

The discovery was supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation – and accelerated by teamwork between #AUVSentry + #HOVAlvin .

After a few days of gloom, the ocean had that glittery shimmery vibe I love so much - it only gets that way on blustery cool sunny days. I took it as a sign to ditch the screen and take a nice long walk.
