There were lots of common terns using the raft for nesting at Loch Spynie. Nice to see a few juveniles on the water & adults taking sand-eels/sprats to their chicks. Great views of this grey heron flying past too.

Both bar & black-tailed godwits at Alturlie yesterday. BTO Scotland Ben Darvill 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇦 my waders session last week came in handy 😉 Also a large flock of Canada geese which I rarely see at Alturlie & a nice wheatear, don’t seem to have been many anywhere this season #PatchBirding

I made a homemade moth trap as part of my The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award skills. I put it out for the first time last night. I was really excited to find 11 moths this morning, 6 different species. Hopefully I have got all the IDs correct! British Moths #Moth #MothTrap #Scotland #ScottishHighlands

Had a White Tailed Sea Eagle flying by carrying something. Landed & ate before leaving remains - we think a rook/raven - anyone want to guess? Still impressed seeing them even after 14 years of regular sightings & always grateful to those who put in the work bringing them back.

After a busy summer it’s time to catch up on some journaling. Back in June during BTO Scotland Bird Camp one of our activities involved looking for birds nests. We found a bullfinch nest, lots of dunnocks nests & a possible lesser whitethroat nest area.

Not shared any hedgehog updates for a while. Our local hedgehog who I named Woody visits our garden every evening. Last night it spent at least an hour and a half in the garden hunting around for insects. Hedgehog Society Hedgehog Cabin #hedgehog #hedgehogs #Nature

Joshs Wildlife Sightings Hedgehog Society There's not enough natural food this year - you've probably noticed the lack of butterflies (and almost half a hedgehog's diet is caterpillars) as we've destroyed the habitat and overwintering places of these precious insects. The beetles have gone the same way, but their

I have put out the moth trap twice. I have found 7 large yellow underwing, the most common species in the garden so far. This black rustic was a nice addition to the list too. British Moths #moths #nature

Just had a new bird for the garden list. Very excited to see this chiffchaff flitting around the tree whilst I was eating my dinner! #BirdsSeenIn2024 #GardenBirds #TwitterNatureCommunity #Birds
