🗣️ Job news! I’m stepping into the peerless Helen Pidd’s role as the Guardian’s North of England editor for the rest of this year while she hosts our brilliant podcast Today In Focus.

Just keeping the seat warm, but a teeny bit delighted to be doing so - particularly this year!

As someone who was told by a teacher at 16 I’d never be a journalist, it feels pretty amazing to be holding what I believe is one of the Guardian’s great offices of state - even temporarily
