Starting this paper in 2015 to seeing it live in The Review of Economic Studies in 2023 has been quite the journey for me, Donn. L. Feir, and Rob Gillezeau! We're so happy it found its home & hope it showcases the broad work economists can do. Many thanks to those who supported us along the way!

Referees acting as coauthors. That is one of the major changes I have seen as an editor over the past 25 years. Referees are much more strident on insisting that someone else's paper is written how they want it written. This is not about science. This is about style.
