Newcastle council is calling time on junk food. New restrictions prevent takeaways from opening within 400m of a school or where more than 10% of Year 6 pupils are obese. Which is pretty much everywhere in Newcastle. A big day for #HealthNation. chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-eas… 1 of 3

V welcome to see previous gov commitments on smoke free generation and restricting junk food advertising make it into the #KingsSpeech. These are important but a whole gov focus will be needed to do the heavy lifting on prevention and inequals. Read👇 health.org.uk/publications/l…

It's really encouraging to hear reference to advertising of less healthy food and drink to children and the sale of high caffeine energy drinks in the #KingsSpeech. These are essential policies to protect child health with enforcement long overdue

Really disturbed to see this in Tesco yesterday. These sugary / ultra processed products are not good choices for growing children’s school snacks or lunch boxes. Get with the times please Tesco! Obesity Health Alliance - Account Inactive The Food Foundation

Today we have issued our open letter to the Prime Minister, giving our support for new policy reforms, allowing the planning system to better support the creation of healthy, active local communities and reduce health inequalities. #PowerToPlaces obesityhealthalliance.org.uk/2024/09/12/loc…

We very much welcome today’s announcement. For too long the food industry has consistently pushed back on these incoming restrictions on advertising unhealthy food on TV before 9pm, and online at any time, saying they need to have ‘more time to prepare’.  Not anymore!

This should not exist 🤯 Influencers need to be held accountable when they have a far and wide reach to young followers. Just as the HFSS restrictions and energy drinks ban are announced they come up with something new to skirt around the problem 😤

And we’re off again! This time to ‘sunny’ Liverpool (So much🌧️!) for The Labour Party conference. It’s the 1st time WCRF has attended a party conference - looking forward to meeting those interested in cancer prevention & modifiable risk factors. First stop Bite Back fringe!

Might be at the busiest fringe of The Labour Party party conference so far - spilling out far and beyond the IPPR fringe hub! Health, Wes Streeting & The Health Foundation seem to be the hot ticket of the day! (So grateful for turning up 45mins early to get a seat!)

Delighted to meet Health Prevention Minister Andrew Andrew Gwynne MP to share our WCRF Policy Priorities to prevent cancer and discuss how we can address modifiable risk factors. Look forward to meeting again to keep the momentum around prevention going!
