Another day at work in the NHS pretending to be overwhelmed on behalf of the government so they can implant you all with microchips. It’s exhausting.

Covid intensive care is: hourly arterial blood samples to check oxygen levels, lines placed into arteries to sample them, lines in the jugular vein to replace electrolytes we have driven out of the body by trying to flush excess water from the lungs, lines into the neck and groin

Junior docs are not children in school, who have nothing else to do out of hours but play and watch TV. They are adults with responsibilities, families of their own, mortgages, plans, lives. Be careful about assuming they can change work schedules & cancel leave with zero notice

Some lessons from my first night shifts in 3 months: 1) I’m still a shit magnet 2) One can of Diet Coke per shift no longer suffices 3) Gardening is the best post-nights activity

Can’t beat the feeling of stepping out of the dry, droning, air conditioned bubble and the heat smacking you in the face… Until you realise you’re stepping out of theatres into the car park of Royal Preston and not off a plane in Ibiza 🙄

Hanging out in the ICU

So, we’ve reached 34 deaths per day from COVID. It’s a shocking number that really gets swamped over by all the other numbers. I’m going to describe the usual dying process in the ICU from this disease. I’m wearing my clinical hat, be warned.

Saw a group of people walking through the village earlier that seemed to be in fancy dress. Bit odd for a Wednesday afternoon I thought, but stranger things have happened. Turns out they were just teenagers. So yeh, I’m old now 🤦🏻‍♀️
