I'm reviewing notes from a stakeholder meeting on a statewide active transportation plan and found this note, which perhaps is one of the most important things I continue to do, over and over, at every meeting that will have me.

Texas needs to add a weight-based vehicle registration fee w/ all funds dedicated to trauma centers, emergency response to crashes, safety interventions to fix unsafe streets, and support for victims of traffic crashes. ...if you believe in free markets, that is... #txlege

This is frustrating.

This is a good thing City of Houston is doing that would complement other good things like safe, efficient street design & systematically reducing crash severity w/ data, maps & best practices. It’s unclear if City of Houston is still planning on doing these other good things.

The City of Houston needs to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to build and maintain sidewalks, every several years, from here on out. There’s lots of ways to fund it & the state has a big part to play in this, but it needs to be done. Maybe it’ll require another lawsuit.

Driving a car is not a human right and should not be subsidized one penny. Traffic violations should be stopped with traffic cameras, speed cameras, in car speed limiters and GPS trackers rather than police officers.

Letting kids bike to school gives them a leg-up on an active, non-sedentary lifestyle, and it creates for them a greater sense of control over their lives. Many teenagers report a lack of that sense as a primary problem for them

Studies continue to show that good is not the enemy of great. Establish a connected bicycle network ASAP by using paint & posts. It's an affordable way to slow down motor vehicles while capturing turf.
