Today, Cornwall remembers the crew of the RNLI’s Penlee Lifeboat, the Solomon Browne - who went to the rescue of the Union Star in treacherous seas on the night of December 19th 1981 - 42 years ago. They all lost their lives that night, trying to save the lives of others.

This week, I had the honour of giving an illustrated talk on ‘Ancient Penwith’ to Cornish Heritage in Penzance. Huge thanks to everyone who came along and special thanks to the gentleman who came to our rescue when the venue’s projector refused to work!

I was excited to have a close encounter with this handsome Eider drake in Penzance Harbour recently. A true seaduck, the Eider is the UK's heaviest and fastest flying duck.

Recently, I was delighted to photograph this young Spoonbill; its ring reveals that it was ringed as a chick on 10/6/23 in Denmark. It was seen at a reserve in Doncaster on 10/10/23. It turned up at Marazion on 19/10/23 and then moved on to Hayle.
