The Security Council has adopted resolution 2724 to call for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan.

14 countries voted in favour, 1 abstained.

The war in Sudan has led to a horrendous humanitarian situation.

The UK has brought forward a Security Council resolution supporting the UNSG António Guterres’s call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and unhindered aid access.

We have a duty to help the vulnerable.

🇬🇧 is a top aid donor and growing trade partner for developing countries.

But illegal migration run by gangs is deadly and unsustainable.

To fight a network, we must build one.

To do this right, we must do it together.

Russia called today’s Council meeting to attempt to distort history.

It was Russia’s aggression that killed the Minsk process. It was President Putin who chose to launch his illegal invasion of Ukraine.

We urge Russia to withdraw its forces from Ukraine.
