Apparently the Emory economics professor has been charged with assaulting an officer. Anyone who watched the video knows this is a farce.

She is a white woman in a prestigious job with exonerating video evidence. She will likely have the charges dropped. Most aren’t so lucky.

Really important to remember as well, though, that some campuses are just letting their encampments continue without interference, and that at those campuses everything generally seems to be entirely fine.

This kind of discourse, in this case and more generally, is the enemy of solidarity.

It always seemed to me that in the US the police know very well that they have carved out genuine in-and-of-itself power; they do not see themselves as serving the people. They expect complete subservience from everyone.

Mainstream media was pretty supportive of BLM in 2020. We now have good evidence the 2020 protests affected racial attitudes and helped Dems. Mainstream media is pretty unsupportive of Gaza 2024 protests. We’ll see what happens.
