I’m seeing lots of Jews praising the ADL’s “apology” for their campaign of bigotry against the proposed mosque in lower Manhattan, but not from any Muslims. It’s not the place for Jews to accept this apology, or say that the ADL has taken an important or meaningful step.

Yesterday, 60 masked Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian village. They threw stones at Palestinian families, injuring 12, including a 3-year-old boy. They also slit the throats of grazing sheep and poured tear gas into Palestinian homes and cars. This is a pogrom.

Those of us who grew up in Jewish spaces often heard stories of pogroms, the horror that Jews experienced at the hands of Cossacks in Ukraine and Russia. But pogroms are not just part of Jewish history, they are a present day reality for Palestinians.
