In my opinion, more than 75% of every urban planning, architecture, and landscape architecture program today should focus on “SPRAWL REPAIR”. The work is endless. And virtually nobody is teaching it.

I am hearing of hard working Americans who voted for Trump and now are being fired from their jobs with the Parks Service, with Veterans affairs, with USAID, with NIH etc. If you are a Trump voter who is being fired or has a family member being fired, please share your story.

europe’s best shot at leverage with trump (and helping save ukraine) is to seize the $300 billion in frozen russian assets and transfer them 1) to rebuild ukraine and 2) to buy american arms to defend ukraine. there’s nothing more america first than using russian money to pay

Belatedly sharing Salim Furth's excellent takedown of MA's statewide housing need assessment. I've been beating on this for a while now but the point is evergreen: "projected household growth" is a DUMB standard of need in supply-constrained markets. bankerandtradesman.com/serious-flaws-…

A recent exhibition at the SPUR Urban Center asked Bay Area residents to approach resilience to sea level rise from a starting point of opportunity. For example, adaptation projects can revive ecosystems and offer the public new amenities. Read more. spur.org/news/2025-05-2…

Let's take a step back. CA has spent ~$25b on housing programs since 2019. Yet there isn't a single staff economist at California HCD, or serving the Senate and Assembly housing committees. /15 x.com/CSElmendorf/st…

Chris Elmendorf the largest contributor to increased electricity costs in California are utility payouts for homes burned in fire sprawl, not actual generation expenses.

Red-state cities are hitting the physical limits of sprawl and will soon have housing crises similar to the ones we see in blue coastal states.

It's easy to connect the dots in Trump world not only because they aren't very bright, but because they simply don't care. The degree of impunity is a warning. People who have no fear of retribution or prosecution are capable of things normal people cannot imagine.

Housing Element review simplification would satisfy numerous goals, but one which should be highly appealing to cities is cost. The current model is a massive windfall for (a handful of) third-party planning consultants with little guarantee of good policy outcomes.

Section 230 allows the modern internet to exist. Without it, any platform that attempts to keep its users safe from hate speech and explicit content will be adopting an untenable level of liability. I'm saddened to see some on the Democratic side pushing this shortsighted move.

For the record, one cannot “expand presidential control over voting” because there is no such thing as “presidential control over voting.” Let’s not give away the republic with wishy-washy language.

Starting in the 2027-28 school year, California will offer a new personal finance course to high schoolers and require it for graduation beginning with the 2031 class. Every Californian should leave high school with the tools to manage money, avoid debt, and build wealth.
