Very informative thread on aerosols by the essential Eric Feigl-Ding. Situation isn't quite as scary as one might glean from this (remember, it takes a decent # of viral particles to cause Covid) but the main point is undisputable: the coronavirus CAN be spread via aerosol route.

Bottom line We have a long way to go in this pandemic Must focus on keeping infections, hospitalizations, and deaths low Not in a good spot but we can control this We can get through next 7-9 months until we hopefully have safe, effective vaccines widely available 9/10

Here's our charge Avoid indoors when possible (push leaders to limit dining, bars) When indoors are super important (schools), improve ventilation: open windows, air exchange. And wear a mask! And democratize testing for everyone, not just well-connected. We can do this Fin

Let’s talk about the “Swiss cheese model” of combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a classic conceptualization of how to cope with hazards, and it powerfully illustrates several features of what we are facing in the pandemic. #SwissCheeseModel (Image h/t Ian M Mackay, PhD (he/him)) 1/

Great piece on lessons learned globally. You don’t need continual lockdowns. You need robust testing and isolation; public health guidance pushing mask wearing and avoidance of closed, crowded spaces; strict border measures. Still can be done. Prof. Devi Sridhar amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

After I read an Ed Yong is not here piece The Atlantic, I find my Covid thinking elevated to a new plane. His piece on the tragedy of the I-Got-Better-Because-I'm-Strong meme is another gem tinyurl.com/yy87dsuh Ed should get a Pulitzer. If there's something better, he should get that.

On #MatchDay2021 we are proud to welcome over 1900 medical students who are on their way to becoming psychiatrists. Nearly 100% of the 1907 PGY-1 slots for psychiatry were filled. This is the most slots ever offered, and highest percentage filled in modern times.

Thanks David Leonhardt for covering "delayed 2nd shot" strategy (& quoting me) in his The New York Times "The Morning" newsletter. UK data makes clear that this strategy has lots of upside – more folks protected quickly, and plummeting case-rates – with little downside. nytimes.com/2021/03/19/bri…

Important thread & sobering case. To me, the time has come: vaccination should be required for healthcare workers who see patients – it's a moral obligation. We see too many patients who remain vulnerable due to age, disease, or Rx. Enough equivocation – let's do what's right.

Off-season work: self-talk. Think back to those situations where your performance was below (or far below) your expectations. What were you saying to yourself in those situations? Be honest. Then ask yourself if you would say the same things to a person you were coaching?
