Annals of spooky virology: bacteria carry virus genomes in their own DNA. After they make the viruses, the viruses form a liquid crystal around the bacteria, shielding them from antibiotics. pnas.org/content/117/9/…

Excited to re-introduce a lost system of symbiosis research… the beetle-fungus symbioses of Drugstore and Cigarette beetles with their symbiont Symbiotaphrina, which have been largely ignored for over 40 years. A thread! tinyurl.com/yy7n6e3q

I am recruiting graduate students interested in resurrecting a forgotten model system of symbiosis | exploring diversity in bee microbiomes | or discovering new symbionts in invertebrates! More info at vincentmartinson.weebly.com Please RT/share widely!

Our paper on microbial biogeography across skin pores is now published in Cell Host & Microbe! We find that C. acnes is severely bottlenecked within individual pores. This spatial structure may weaken intraspecies competition and promote coexistence. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
