Getting up at 515am was ROUGH this morning. I should’ve started waking up earlier and earlier to prepare myself. Mistakes have been made. 😂

I’ve been feeling like a failure recently because I’m going back into the classroom. I wanted to be successful. I wanted to reach my goals. I wanted to make everyone proud… but today, I realized I’m where the universe needs me for now. The students I’m about to have deserve me.

Tomorrow, this room will be full of 5th graders. It will be full of noise, laughter, and learning… just like it should be. 24-25 is officially about to begin. Fingers crossed that I haven’t forgotten how to teach… 😳🙃

There is no tired like first day of school teacher tired. I think I could sleep for 3 days straight. 😂

From working on simple and complete sentences to fixing run ons in multiple ways… and it’s only day 4! We’ve hit the ground running already in 5th! Let’s go, Kane’s kids!

One of the most impactful things so far with the classroom community is the shoutouts board. Students leave nice messages for each other (and for me), shoutouts for great work they’ve seen other students do, and even some silly post-its. 🤍

Using Pixar shorts as the “we do” & “ya’ll do” for Theme today. We started with a story, moved into these videos, and then into HMH Education for the exit ticket. They did an AWESOME job explaining the theme of “The Inventor’s Story” & events that led them to understand the theme!

Some writing samples from the introductions of the first essays of the year. Written by our Roosevelt Dual Language Academy 5th graders! They’re researching an inventor & writing about how the inventor worked hard to make the invention a reality. Can’t wait to see the finished & edited products!

Using Writable for some ECR practice this morning. Practicing pulling strong evidence, and we will work on structure, introductions, and conclusions later!
