Tomorrow is the first day of school. For the second year in a row, Mayor Eric Adams is continuing the cruel policy of evicting families with children from shelter after 60 days—and is extending the policy to Homeland Security shelters to evict even more families. It doesn’t have to be this way.

We joined dozens of neighbors--longtime NYers + recent arrivals--who came together this AM to call for an end to shelter stay limits. As the school year begins, it's unconscionable that Mayor Eric Adams is forcing folks out out of shelter & destabilizing tens of thousands of families.

I’m with Carmen De La Rosa. Families can’t get their mail and students can’t get placed in school. These shelter stay limits aren’t helping. They’re destabilizing and no family or child can get ahead like this. City Hall should end them, now.

Migrant families have already experienced so much hardship. Many fled violence and fear. To force them to move every two months, destabilizing them, making it impossible to track their mail (crucial for immigration processes), is sick. Mayor Eric Adams must END the 60-day eviction rule.

Wild, even if not surprising. NYPD under Eric Adams has reverted to Giuliani & Bloomberg-era lawlessness & skyrocketing stop-and-frisks. They don't care what courts say as long as mayor lets them get away with abuse, brutality & *literal* murder (eg Win Rozario).

As the school year begins, students are still being shuffled around the city. The administration's shelter eviction policy means we're rescinding the right to shelter every 30 and 60 days, displacing and uprooting children in dire need of stability.
