Big news! Last week, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed a new law ending school-based ticketing — a practice that unjustly harmed vulnerable youth. Previously, students could face $200 fines for municipal violations during school hours, on school grounds. 👇tinyurl.com/289fs7y5
As StandforChildren IL’s Aimee Galvin points out, “The data shows Black & Latino students are ticketed at higher rates. Not only does this result in more students becoming justice-system involved, but the research tells us that tickets are ineffective at changing student behavior.”
