Sunak highlights increases in funding and senior probation officers. And then talks, pointlessly, about harsh sentencing.

It's worth mentioning that every probation officer I've spoken to over the last year is in absolute despair about the conditions they work in.

We're now on Zahawi. A shame. But good on Starmer for bringing the matter up - probation gets almost no attention, MPs show little interest in it, and yet it has been thoroughly vandalised, putting the public at greater risk of crime.

Sunak answer on Zahawi very closely worded: 'The issues in question occurred before I was PM... The usual appointments process was followed, no issues were raised with me... since I commented on this matter last week more information has come forward.'

Starmer: Last week Pm said Zahawi had answered questions in full. This week he says there's serious questions to answer. What changed?

Sunak relies on the fact 'more information... has entered the public domain.' Says he believes in 'proper due process'.

Oooph from Starmer: 'Is he starting to wonder if this job is just too big for him.' Westminster version of 'doesn't she look tired'.

Sunak obvs answering by talking about Corbyn.

That Starmer line about the job being too big for Sunak feels really visceral and dangerous for the PM. I imagine we'll be hearing a lot of it.

Blair had a bit in his memoirs where he said that he had to find the defining reputational failure of each Tory leader and then zero in on it remorselessly. That might be what Starmer just unveiled: the encapsulating attack.
