ICM Bologna - 2024 #icm2024

Congratulations to the winner of the IUPAP Magnetism Award and Neel Medal, Dr Masato Sagawa. Congratulations also to Dr Alannah Hallas and Dr Lucas Caretta, winners of the 2023 and 2024 IUPAP Early Career Scientists Prize in Magnetism.

We had a great first day yesterday. Here are a few highlights for those who couldn't join us. #ICM2024

Anyone struggling to cross the main road every day? There's a beautiful garden bridge crossing the highway. Just take the stairs by the big red "Bologna Fiera" sign and you can cross in peace and see this lovely rose garden on your way.

We were so pleased to host Nobel Laureate (2007) Albert Fert at a special plenary session this morning on orbitronics. Prof Fert provided insight into the field's development and future and we are grateful to him for taking the time to speak for us.

We were glad to host Prof Supriyo Datta at a plenary session today. Prof Datta spoke about probabilistic computing, a compromise between quantum and classical computing that's achievable with current technology. Thank you Prof Datta for your insight in this promising field.

The conference is in full swing! We've had two days full of fascinating talks and posters, and we're only half way! #ICM2024

It was wonderful to have Julie Grollier as a plenary speaker yesterday. Her extensive work on neuromorphic spintronics, an exciting application of magnetism to AI, has been transformative and we were very glad to host her talk at #ICM2024.

A huge thank you to Nobel Laureate (2021) Giorgio Parisi giorgio parisi for speaking to us about his work on Multiple Equilibria in a special plenary session today. Especially interesting was how this approach applies to understanding the "cornucopia" of spin glass phenomena.

Don't forget that the busses for the conference dinner will depart from the main entrance to the Congress Centre at 7pm. If you signed up for the dinner, this ticket will be inside your ID badge, don't forget to bring it!!

#ICM2024 was a runaway success! As one of the highest attended ICM conferences of all time, it was not only a great scientific exchange, but proof of the resilience of our community to challenging times. We'd like to thank you all for taking part and making this event a success.

#ICM2024 is delighted to announce the winner of the MagneticART competition is "Diving in Magnetism", by Ismael Ribeiro de Assis of Martin-Luther-Universität, Halle(Saale), Germany. This work uses MuMax3 simulations of biskyrmions to convey a sense of diving into a magnetic sea.
