7 years ago we wrote about how Swarm met STEVE, a purple arc-shaped glow at lower latitudes on the dusk side of the auroral oval 🌈🌆

Here in 2024, and a 🆕 paper suggests that STEVE may have a dawn side twin! 👶👶🌄

What should we call her? 🤔

Contributions of Jupiter's Deep-Reaching Surface Winds to Magnetic Field Structure and Secular Variation. buff.ly/3wiHvzX Study finds that zonal winds reaching deeper than 3,400 km would yield a very axisymmetric surface field and are thus unrealistic.

Great infographic from @PHDcomic! Was exciting to hear the newest science on these (mainly middle right + bottom left) at the ESA's Swarm mission birthday a few weeks ago🎂

Credit goes to my partner, who sent this to me as she thought I’d enjoy it, which I did indeed.

Can magnetic field data one day be used to predict earthquakes?

🫨 It's not an easy task, but research is well underway.

A 🆕 paper looks at Swarm measurements of magnetic anomalies before Earthquakes of magnitude 6 and above in Turkey and Greece.

HAPPY 😍🌍🌏🌎😍

Today on 🧲 Magnetic Monday 🧲 a huge big THANKS to all that hot iron and nickel slushing around deep under our feet, and the ensuing magnetic field which keeps our atmosphere all nice and breathable by deflecting the worst the sun throws at us.
