The most fascinating thing about this video is not necessarily that shoplifting is more common or brazen, it’s that nowadays, security stand by passively recording on a body cam, and the public do the same on a phone… accepting the problem and passing it to someone else.

We’ve already got Reform (Britain), as well as Rupert Lowe’s Restore Britain. Labour now have Renew Britain. Coming soon: the Conservatives with Revive Britain, the SNP with Retire Britain, and the Lib Dems with Revel in Britain.

Under UK law, a company can make £200m+ in sales and still hide its profit & loss by calling itself “small”. That’s how PPE Medpro kept its finances secret. A short thread on one of Britain’s daftest loopholes, the 1970s EU compromise that created it — and how to fix it.

One of the solutions to this conundrum is expanding the scope of VAT by removing exemptions and lowering the threshold (also economically sensible). Broaden it enough that you can lower the headline rate, and throw out some bungs eg child benefit. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/o…

Stamp duty is the worst tax Britain has. It makes the housing shortage significantly worse by penalising people for downsizing and stopping people from moving around to better jobs. There is literally no better tax cut for growth you can do than getting rid of it.

Barnet FC is NOT in Barnet! Local fans can’t watch their own team play football in their own borough. The council won’t let them build a stadium after complaints that the floodlights might be too bright! Just another example of how you can’t build ANYTHING in Britain.

Change in Altrincham over the last decade. I particularly liked the way that the usual ugly road markings have been replaced with inlaid masonry ones.

🇵🇱 My The Times and The Sunday Times column: Poland’s economic miracle 12 out of 17 Polish regions are now richer than West Wales. It has faster internet, cheaper electricity and more high speed rail than Britain When it comes to regional development it’s the UK, not Poland, that needs to catch up

Greenpeace are planning to sue the Crown Estate for making excess profits… do they realise that all of their profits go to the Treasury? Less Crown Estate profit means higher taxes. ft.com/content/c29c29…
