Slightly surreal and spellbinding at the same time. I had the privilege of seeing in May morning from the top of Magdalen tower. A once in a lifetime experience!

Have spent all day piecing together stories of former occupants of the house in Maida Vale during early 1900s! But there is no escaping impact of the First World War & one former resident, a 36 year old solicitor, died fighting at the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

I have had this image for many years, yet I still cannot find information about it. It depicts the Old and New London Bridges in 1827 and is by George B. Moore (1806–1875).
1903 is a date also attached to later edition prints of it.

Everyone has heard of Frank Meadow Sutcliffe but many fewer of Thomas Watson (1863-1957) He lived in Lythe, near Whitby. This turn of the century photograph is of Staithes but he is especially remembered for his images of Mulgrave Castle.

I set out to find bright carpets of bluebells and came upon only small, scattered clusters. But these jewels of blue amid the green, with supporting stitchwort, like tiny cheerleaders, can never be a source of disappointment. Sometimes a whisper is more powerful than a shout.
