OECD warns NZ Govt it shouldn’t borrow to pay for tax cuts. A very stark warning to Willis. The markets will be watching. Will we see the economy tank if she follows the disastrous Truss model? nzherald.co.nz/business/oecd-…

$1.9b Corrections reveal:

Possibly the wobbliest press conference and funding announcement so far in this Government’s term.
Numbers not clear, not quite as big or new as promoted and minister struggling a bit on the detail.
PM seems a little irritated at questioning.

'A tax on sugary drinks can make us healthier. It’s time for Australia to introduce one'. Same should apply in NZ where obesity & diabetes problems are even greater. Shocking how the industry is able to stonewall health policy. theconversation.com/a-tax-on-sugar…

What Mike says here is not true. But it’s also irrelevant since AUKUS pillar 2 is not being offered to NZ. And yet even if it were, and even if it meant getting “advanced tech,” what good is that if it cuts you off from your leading trading partner or culminates in rivalry—>war?

One ironic consequence of the intensive coverage of campus protests about Gaza is that it seems to have crowded out coverage of what is actually happening in Gaza itself. All sides in the west much more comfortable when the story is mainly about us

The rates increase will be 3x larger than it would have been under Labour's model

TPU's praising higher rates

Also, so called 'co governance' was the Watercare model. Watercare board is appointed by the Mayor, a Councillor, & Chair of the Independent Maori Statutory Board

hmm. so a bespoke law, denying watercare any council or central government support & saying it'll be privatised if it gets into financial trouble.

Remember how National was so opposed to entrenching public ownership of water services - insisting they would never privatise them?

notice the sleight of hand that implies there would have been a 26% increase in water charges under 3 Waters. that was really the number after the govt repealed 3 Waters.

Water charge increase was going to be 2% under 3 Waters. Instead, Auckland is getting 7%.
