I wish our reaction was as positive and emotional when we see new data showing a big, positive development.

Given how fantastic and important an achievement like this is, hugs and celebrations are the right reaction.

Trying to do my bit to speak up for the precious taonga that is the Growing Up in NZ study.
This study has so much to offer, and in all honesty belongs to the young people whose lives and stories are in it.
Tx John Gerritsen RNZ for covering.

Now with another quiet Friday afternoon cancellation of govt funding for longitudinal data--the Growing Up in New Zealand--we effectively have discontinued funding the collection of longitudinal data on tamariki Māori and Pacific children in Aotearoa NZ

These decisions to cut funding to critical longitudinal surveys in Aotearoa, in combo with an ‘admin first’ census, will exacerbate inequities, create significant fiscal and community costs, and limit the ability to monitor the Crowns responsibilities. More debate is critical.

Shocked by this news. Rod Oram was a wonderful human being. His positivity and gentle but relenting criticality were a gift to New Zealand. I had the privilege of working with Rod on a number of projects. His knowledge, wisdom, and grace always shone through. He was a hero to me.

What is the relationship between the thing being measured and the measure itself?

E.g. how well is overall system performance, capacity, constraints and risks captured by the 5 health targets.

And what's missing and remains invisible (again)?

Just finished this excellent book by Prof Amy Edmondson. For a book about failure, it was surprisingly uplifting 🤓. A major mindset shift for me to differentiate between different types of failure: basic, complex, and intelligent. I’ll be referring to it again and again. 5🌟!
