Working on glaciers is what we like most. The possibility to work under a glaciers is far more rare. Here is what we encountered during our last trip on #Rhonegletscher!

Alors que certains ont l’impression que cet été n’a pas été très chaud, cette interview du climatologue Christophe Cassou est puissante : il ne l'a jamais AUTANT été.

The probability of record-shattering extreme #precipitation events is projected to be higher in a changing than a stationary #climate at the end of the century, with the steepest rise in vulnerability in the #tropics. Read the full article at 👉 nature.com/articles/s4324…

I am running out of words to describe how absurd August 2024 was in Svalbard. Reaching an average temperature of 11°C in August would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. This is totally bonkers.

There was an accelerated loss of sea ice volume last month in the #Arctic. We are not far from a record low. Each line represents one year from 1979 [dark blue] to 2023 [dark red]. This year is shown in yellow - now updated through all of August 2024 zacklabe.com/arctic-sea-ice…

Shock to the system 🥶 Unusually strong cold is pouring south out of the Arctic into Europe right now. This is an ideal setup for deep fresh snow accumulations in the Alps and flooding in Central Europe. This is about as cold as it gets this early in September.

Snow is falling locally below 700m in NE Italy, historic event not remembered in memory life this time of the year. Let's expect even full monthly records low to fall. In the meanwhile temperatures will rise again >27C in the Arctic Circle in Russia and break records.
