The violent crackdown on student encampments is underway, and the justification is Jewish safety.

But the student encampments are not a danger to Jews. The repression and the toxic narrative certainly are. I reported on the ground for The Nation

The Columbia lawn occupied by students had been quiet, well-organized, and brimming with camaraderie, writes Hadas Thier—that is until Columbia President Minouche Shafik called on the NYPD to descend upon the encampment for a second time in as many weeks.

Lol you can’t win. Either protesters are “outside agitators” or they’re student monsters who should be… “slayed”!

MIT would rather fence us in than cut ties to the Israeli Defense Ministry. They can put up fences but they cannot shut down the movement. We are here until Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) divests from genocide, apartheid, and occupation of Palestine!

Wonderful piece by Hadas Thier chronicling what was actually happening in the Columbia encampment: the exact opposite of the violence and antisemitism that everyone from the far right to the mainstream media to Biden has falsely claimed. thenation.com/article/activi…

Columbia’s encampment along with the ones at City College and UCLA have been violently disbanded. But every student Hadas Thier spoke with, including those that have been arrested and suspended, vowed to continue to organize and protest.

A superb piece by Hadas Thier on the encampments. After Columbia suspended JVP, Jewish students critical of Israel lost the space to practice Shabbat and other Jewish rituals. But the encampment provided the community that the admin had tried to destroy. thenation.com/article/activi…

interesting how this photo Northeastern U. is using to celebrate its recent grads only includes two of the three flags this student was waving

This is exactly what’s making any normal observer feel insane.
A pro-Israel mob attacked these kids with slurs, fists, mace, and fireworks. Police watched for HOURS & did nothing.
A day later, police instead bombard *them* with rubber bullets & flashbangs.
(All in a “blue” state)

Yep. Insane. Feel like I am losing my mind at the brazen double standards in front of our faces, on camera. The pure gaslighting. And not from Trumpists this time.

PLEASE SHARE: We are concerned that several CCNY students who have been arrested, predominantly students of color, have spent their 2nd night in jail and have yet to be arraigned. NY law requires arraignment within 24 hrs of arrest.

We demand their prompt processing and release.
