It is almost two years since a journalist, Dom Phillips, and an indigenist, Bruno Pereira, were brutally murdered in the Amazon. Here is the journey of one of their widows to the place where their remains were found.

‘Heroes in the fire’ is a short film telling the story of local fire brigades risking their lives to tackle wildfires in the Amazon rainforest. Our own Professor Jos Barlow (JosBarlow) commissioned the film after seeing the brigades during research trips studying the forest.

IAVCEI is saddened to learn that Hans-Ulrich Schmincke passed away on 24/08/24 at the age of 86. He was SG of IAVCEI between 1983-1991, and awarded the Thorarinsson medal in 1993. During his mandate, he revamped the publication model of BV, a legacy that we profit from today
