Wonderful landscapes of maerl beaches, rafting seaweeds, huge onshore maerl banks & fascinating maerl-forests. Plus, the divers had a great time taking in the underwater perspective 😍

Day 6 of #ICAM2023 : Wonderful day on Rebbensøya (70°N!) looking at the #coralline #algae beaches, with André Freiwald as the best field guide!
Modern #maerl mixed up with Holocene mussels and corallines, 4000-5000 years old! Plus lots of #urchins , who use coralline algae as hats!

TLDR: there's reason to be optimistic! Coralline algae *might* fair better than other habitat-former like corals 👍 BUT, our evidence base is way smaller... We need to level-up our efforts!
