When children run away from their home, CPS says the parent is the problem and something negative is happening at home, but when a child runs away from foster facility or foster placement the child are the problem.

These systems keep thinking they can stop us by taking our jobs away. They can't.

In 2005 Maryland estimated fair case loads for public defenders. The state has not since updated these numbers - despite body worn cameras and other forms of e-discovery that add hours to many cases.

Many districts are still above even these 2005 standards (red-dashed line).

Substance use/relapse are not a good reasons to take a child from a parent but it happens all the time - DSS responds that the use of a substance=neglect. All the policies say substance use itself is not neglect but this is not the practice. #abolishCPS

This happens all the time. The court acts like the parents are monsters for not wanting a person they don’t know to take their child out of the country.I’ve opposed this many times and always have lost in court.

A year ago, SCOTUS obliterated the 14th Amendment’s abolitionist history to deny constitutional protection against reproductive servitude. Today, it obliterated that history again to grant constitutional protection for the unequal racial order.

When I said, “To say, ‘Let’s improve mandated reporting’ obscures what the problem is,” it was after discussing in depth the unfixable problems with mandated reporting. I made it very clear that I meant mandated reporting can’t be “improved;” it should be abolished.

Separating an infant or small child from their mother is an act of violence against that child.

What an unbelievable victory for NY. It’s wild that we are even talking about creating a law for this in 2023 but that’s the family policing system in a nutshell. We need this in Maryland
