Staring back. Where... Did this dog come from???

Watches the dog approach. When it gets close enough, he slowly reaches out a hand towards it, offering up his hand for a trust sniff test. "Hello there... Where did you come from?"

Oh! Oh, well— Looks like he passed the sniff test with flying colors, it seems. "Yes, yes. Settle dow— Hey, don't bark at me." Despite the huff he lets out, he reaches out to try and give the dog a pet on the head. "Is someone missing you, little one? Where should you be?"

"Ah— No. Stop, you beast," Mei Nianqing reprimands quickly, trying to pull his robes from the dog's mouth as carefully as he can to prevent ripping. He's forced to follow a few steps or else risk damaging his robes. "Who taught you manners?? Let me go! Is this how you ask??"
