The ‘National Defence Strategy’ is not a strategy. It is an ideology. An ideology that firmly ties Australia’s future to that of the United States. A horrifying thought. Cameron Leckie#auspol

'How many homicides might be prevented by lifting social welfare?
By [ensuring] easily accessible social housing?
By better funding public education and services to support mental health?...'

Some solutions to lie in routine policy, says Jonathan Green.

And this my friends, is why we have so many women being killed. Disrespect for women is a key driver of violence against women. When men in power demean women it normalises this behaviour.

Not much else to say, other than thank you to the readers here on X who always engaged with such passion.

I'll start looking for freelance work from next week - editors who haven't blocked me (cough PVO cough), please get in touch 🤗

Trees & their hollows are homes for wildlife, including threatened species such as the Gouldian finch, black-footed tree-rat & northern brushtail possum. Today they're being destroyed at Lee Point in Darwin, after @Tanya_Plibersek's approval. Ecocide in action. Environment laws?

We don't know what the International Criminal Court prosecutor plans, but Netanyahu has good reason to fear war-crime charges for his starvation strategy in Gaza. I explain: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Except 30.7% of Australia's population in 2023 was born overseas according to the ABS.

So if Ben’s numbers are right, foreign born Australians (of which I am one) are proportionally underrepresented in NSW social housing.

But hey, dog whistles are fun.

We can’t normalize this. This isn’t normal. A group of students were sitting on the lawn of their own school. Daring to ask for peace in Gaza.

Please, Tanya Plibersek, you can STOP this madness, today.

Please, don’t let something so precious be destroyed.

Save Lee Point, it’s an urban biodiversity gem that all should be able to enjoy!

Astonishingly, we have just learned more about Plato's last evening. Battling a fever, he listened to a Thracian slave girl play the flute and criticised her lack of rhythm. theguardian.com/books/2024/apr…
